Wade Dooley -
Wade Dooley was one of the great England second rows. Not only was he supremely skilful as a line out jumper, but he got round the field and made his enormous physical presence felt. He came to International Rugby late in his career, and from the relative obscurity of Preston Grasshoppers. In the last days of ''amateur'' Rugby he was a true professional. Wade Dooley [detail] -
The gunge on his face is not some painterly experiment on my part, but a rendition of petroleum jelly, which second rows smear on their face to protect them from the rigours of prop forwards backsides in the scrum. Jeremy Guscott -
Jeremy Guscott was the glamour boy of English Rugby in the nineties. He was much in demand as a male model. He was also one of England's best ever centres and a genuinely tough character. The first sitting I had with him was at Bath just after a heavy duty training session. Jeremy Guscott -

This is an alternative portrait, sweaty, dirty, alert. Rory Underwood -
Rory has an armful of try scoring records for both England and Leicester Tigers. He was a winger and he scored tries. He scored tries that no other winger in the world could score, so often he would just slip out of a tackle or take a big hit and still maintain his momentum. Off the field he is gentle, unassuming and kind. Rory Underwood -

A second version has Rory in his RAF flying gear. He was a pilot and flew reconnaissance planes. I sensed that he was as proud of his career in the RAF as he was of his glittering International Rugby exploits. Rory Underwood 2 -
